WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University officially clinched a berth into the ODAC women's soccer tournament with a 6-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (7-9-1, 5-4-1 ODAC) scored just six minutes in to provide all of the offense it would need against the Royals (3-11-1, 0-9-1).
With two games remaining in the league slate, SU holds a two-game lead over Randolph as well as Emory and Henry while holding the tiebreaker over both.
The Hornets are virtually guaranteed to finish in seventh place and wiill play the No. 2 seed (most likely Washington and Lee) in the quarterfinal round of the ODAC tourney on October 27.
The winner of that contest will face the winner of the No. 3 vs No. 6 contest in the semi-finals.
In addition to senior Stormie Malik's goal in the sixth minute, SU tallied in the 39th, 44th and 45th minutes to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
Coach Liz Pike's club then scored a pair of goals in a span of 3:43 early in the second half to provide the final margin of victory.
Freshman Kati Richardson paced the victors with two goals with Malik getting a goal and an assist.
SU outshot EMU 36-2 and took all seven of the game's corners.
Keepers Nicole Gilbertson and Nichole Pratt had one save each to share the shutout.
Shenandoah is at Lynchburg on Saturday in a 2:00 ODAC contest.
