Womack Named State RoY
FERRUM, Va. - Freshman women's soccer player Amber Womack has earned All-State Rookie of the Year honors in selections announced Friday by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Womack, who was named USA South Conference Rookie of the Year in November, becomes the first SU women's soccer player to sweep both RoY awards. She finished third in the USA South in scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points as Shenandoah won a school-record-tying 10 contests in 2009.
Sophomore Kat Terza joins Womack in earning All-State honors with a second team selection at goalkeeper.
Womack was named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week on two different occasions and she had three game-winning goals. She is just the second player in SU history to be named USA South Conference women's soccer Rookie of the Year and the first to win VaSID Rookie honors.
Terza repeats her VaSID honors at goalkeeper. In 1345 minutes over 15 games, Terza had 102 saves and allowed just 13 goals. In addition to shutting out four opponents, she was named as the league's Defensive Player of the Week three times.
Both women were also named first team All-USA South this season.
