Womack Named All-USA South RoY

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Freshman Amber Womack headlines a group of six women earning All-USA South Conference women's soccer honors in selections announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Womack and Kat Terza were named first team All-USA South at forward and goalkeeper, respectively with Womack also picking up league Rookie of the Year accolades.

The Hornets, who tied a school record with 10 victories this season, also had sophomore Jessi Dennis as well as freshmen Nicole Gilbertson and Alex Lowery earn third team honors.

Junior Lauren Morris rounded out the team's selections by being named both to the honorable mention team and to the league's All-Sportsmanship squad.

Womack finished third in the league in scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points and her nine assists in USA South Conference play led the 10-team loop.

Womack was named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week on two different occasions and she had three game-winning goals.

Womack is just the second player in SU history to be named USA South Conference women's soccer Rookie of the Year.

Terza repeats her first team honor at goalkeeper in 2009. In 1345 minutes over 15 games, Terza had 102 saves and allowed just 13 goals. In addition to shutting out four opponents, Terza was named as the league's Defensive Player of the Week three times.

Dennis, also a two-time All-USA South honoree, finished second to Womack with eight goals and two assists for 18 points. She had a season-high four points on two goals in the Mary Baldwin victory on October 30.

Lowery, at midfield, and Gilbertson, at back, were both selected for their defensive prowess. In 17 games, Lowery had one assist (against Greensboro) from her defensive midfielder spot while Gilbertson contributed three goals and one assist from her stopper position.

Morris, who was selected as the USA South Conference Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago, was also selected at back. This is the second time in three years that Morris, a team captain, has been named honorable mention All-USA South.
