Women's Lax Trips Maroons

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its third straight victory Saturday afternoon with a 12-7 road win over Roanoke.

Shenandoah (7-6, 4-2 ODAC) jumped out to an 8-3 halftime lead and never looked back against the Maroons (6-7, 3-3).

The two teams split eight second-half goals.

Senior Samantha Sisson and junior Liz Bereit paced the Hornets to the victory with three goals each.

Sisson also added one assist.

Coach Lindsey Lutz saw seven different women score goals with freshman Brittany Arndt joining Sisson and Bereit in the multiple-goal category by tallying twice.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cross anchored the defense with 13 saves.

Bereit gave the victors the early lead with her unassisted goal at 27:38 of the first; this would start a string in which the two teams would trade the first four goals of the game.

Senior Samantha Donaghy, who finished with a goal and two assists, gave the Hornets the lead for good with her unassisted goal at 20:25.

Shenandoah would score six of the final seven goals of the first, finishing with an Arndt tally off of a Donaghy assist just six seconds before the halftime buzzer.

Roanoke climbed back in it with a three-goal run to start the second before Bereit and Sisson scored 57 seconds apart to push the SU lead back to four goals.

RC outshot the Hornets 25-23 with the victors winning 11 of 20 draws and holding a 28-24 advantage in groundballs.
