WINCHESTER, Va. - For the second consecutive season, the Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team finds itself 60 minutes from its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth as the Hornets will play in a league championship game this Saturday afternoon.
The winner of Saturday's game claims the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament in addition to the league title.
The NCAA Tournament field will be announced Sunday evening.
W&L, the league's pre-season favorite, has won a league-record 13 ODAC championships including the last three and four of five during head coach Brooke O'Brien's tenure in Lexington.
Shenandoah comes into the game as the No. 2 seed in the tournament and boasts a 12-4 overall record. Last Saturday, coach Lindsey Lutz' club downed Randolph-Macon 17-5 to reach the tournament championship game.
Ashley Cross made 13 saves in the win.
The semi-final round victory sends SU into a championship game for the third time in program history. The 2005 team won the USA South title while Lutz' club fell 13-9 to CNU last spring.
Saturday's game is a rematch of the April 3 regular season contest, a game that SU won 11-7 over the Generals.
Cross had 13 saves for SU with Cara Mulligan stopping seven shots for Washington and Lee.
There is no charge for Saturday's game. Due to the 86th Apple Blossom Festival being held this weekend in Winchester, fans are urged to use the Tulane Drive entrance into Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium. Directions to that entrance can be found here.
