ASHLAND, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 10-9 decision to Randolph-Macon Wednesday evening.
SU is now tied for second with Roanoke, but holds the tiebreaker over the Lady Maroons based on the head-to-head result from earlier this season.
Macon (10-4, 6-4) took control with a four-goal run midway through the first half.
Junior Samantha Donaghy scored the opening goal of the game at 24:37, but the 'Jackets scored four straight from 22:18 to 12:40 marks to take a 4-1 lead.
Shenandoah was able to answer with three of the final four goals of the stanza to trail by just one, 5-4, at the break before tying the game at 6-6 on a Samantha Sisson goal at 20:08.
R-MC then scored 18 second later on a free position shot to take the lead for good.
Donaghy and Amy Rollins scored goals at 6:07 and 1:26, respectively, to make matters interesting, but SU could not tally the equalizer.
Donaghy led the visitors with four goals while Samantha Sisson had three goals and one assist.
SU outshot its hosts 23-21, had an 11-10 advantage in draw controls and the two teams split 28 groundballs.
