Women's Lax Marches Past Generals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team continued its quest for the ODAC regular season championship with an 11-7 victory over pre-season favorite Washington and Lee Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (8-2, 5-0 ODAC) now has knocked off the three teams picked ahead of it in the pre-season poll with the win over the Generals (5-7, 5-2).

The Hornets are now locked in a tie with Guilford at the top of the league standings and the Quakers visit Winchester a week from Saturday in a game that could determine the top seed at the upcoming conference tournament.

The two teams traded goals 10 seconds apart to start the game before senior Corrinne Kosmowski scored on a free position shot at 26:05 to give SU a lead it would not relinquish Wednesday evening.

Kosmowski's tally, one of two she had on the night, started a 5-0 run for the hosts that gave Lindsey Lutz' club a 6-1 lead with 8:21 remaining in the first.

The Generals answered with the final two goals of the half, scoring at 6:57 and 5:16, to make the score 6-3 at the break.

Shenandoah then scored four of the initial five goals of the second to take a 10-4 lead with 13:20 remaining.

Senior Amy Rollins, who scored the first goal of the game and had three goals on the night, capped this run with a free position goal.

Sophomore Mary Kogler had the victors final goal of the game by converting a Samantha Sisson feed with 2:00 remaining.

Goalkeeper Ashley Cross was outstanding, stopping 13 saves in the win. Cross had five saves in the opening five minutes of the contest.

W&L outshot SU 28-20 and had a 12-6 advantage in draw controls.

The Hornets won 17 of the game's 29 groundballs.

Shenandoah takes to the road on Saturday for an ODAC game at Sweet Briar.
