ATHENS, Ohio - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team has earned IWLCA All-Academic honors in selections announced recently by the organization.
The Hornets are one of 61 NCAA Division III teams to earn the honor. All schools with a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale earned the accolade.
SU had a 3.03 GPA with seven of the 16 women on the team posting at least a 3.0 GPA in both the fall and spring semesters in 2011-12. Nine of the 16 posted a better than 3.0 in the spring semester with three of these women - Sydney Anderson, Liz Bereit and Samantha Sisson at 3.68 or better.
Anderson, Bereit and Sisson all were named All-USA South as well.
Shenandoah earned the distinction in its final season in the USA South and was the only league school to be honored. ODAC members Lynchburg, Virginia Wesleyan and Washington and Lee also were named to the Academic team.
Coach Lindsey Lutz' team opens its 2013 season in mid-February.
