Six Named Academic All-State

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Two repeat selections highlight the Shenandoah University honorees to the 2012 Academic All-State team in selections announced Wednesday by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors.

Rising seniors Nick Erdman (football) and Denise Mitchell (cross country/softball) were named to the team for the second straight year along with first time honorees Dorothy Earner (cross country/track), Jenna Kline (women's soccer), Heather Sink (softball) and Samantha Sisson (women's lacrosse).

The latter four student-athletes are all rising juniors.

The six student-athletes hold an average GPA of 3.78 on a 4.0 scale and earned a collective 12 All-League honors last season.

All six were honored by either the Mason-Dixon, Old Dominion or USA South conferences in 2011-12.

Erdman and Kline both were named Capital One first team Academic All-District.

The six are all pursuing majors in Health Professions with Erdman, Mitchell and Sink all slated to begin their graduate studies this coming fall.

Erdman, Mitchell and Sink are now Doctor of Physical Therapy candidates.

To be eligible for Academic All-State, student-athletes must have completed their sophomore year of eligibility and possess at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
