Women's Lax Roars Over 'Cats

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its third win this season versus future ODAC opponents with a 13-2 victory over Randolph College Tuesday evening.

Shenandoah (11-5), which had previously beaten Guilford and Randolph-Macon colleges this spring, dominated against Randolph (3-9).

Sophomore Samantha Sisson scored the opening goal of the game for the Hornets with an unassisted tally at 24:05 before Sydney Anderson made it 2-0 at 22:20.

Erin Oliver then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Hornets as she finished off a feed from senior Alexis Landau.

Landau started the play by causing a turnover, scooped up the groundball and fed Oliver after successfully clearing the ball into the WildCats offensive zone.

Danielle Haney scored the 'Cats first goal at 11:57 but SU answered with Sisson and Liz Bereit goals in the waning moments of the first to take a 7-1 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Hornets scored the first five goals of the second, from four different women, to erase any thoughts of an RC comeback.

Corrinne Kosmowski, who set up Sisson for the first goal of the second, finished off this run with goals at 15:07 and 14:05.

Sisson led all scorers with four goals, Kosmowski and Oliver both had two goals and an assist and Anderson added two goals.

Shenandoah outshot its visitors 35-12, had a 31-20 advantage in groundballs and won 10 of 17 draws.

The Hornets open USA South Conference Tournament play on Friday at 3:30 against No. 3 Greensboro.
