Lax Grabs Two USA South Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team had two student-athletes earn USA South Conference weekly honors in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Sophomore Ashley Cross was named as the league's Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Liz Bereit was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.

For Bereit, it is the fifth consecutive week she has earned Rookie honors.

Cross has been named DPoW three times this spring, including two of the past three weeks.

Cross helped SU to a 2-1 week, including the program's first-ever victory over Randolph-Macon and a shutout of USA South foe LaGrange, with 29 total saves.

The shutout of the Panthers is the second of the year for Cross. She is currently fifth in the nation in save percentage and sixth in goals against average.

Bereit, who is 53rd in the nation in scoring, had nine points on five goals and four assists in the three games last week.

Most of her damage came in the 21-0 win over LaGrange as she had three goals, three assists, five draw controls, two groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Bereit had one goal against R-MC and one goal and one assist against Susquehanna.

Shenandoah is off until Saturday when it hosts Christopher Newport at noon in the program's final USA South Conference contest. The winner of that game claims the league's regular season title.
