WINCHESTER, Va. - Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Lindsey Lutz announced Monday that she has hired Becca Watkins as her new assistant coach.
Watkins, a northern Virginia native, takes the position vacated by Dennis Cox '08. Cox was hired in August as the head coach at fellow USA South school Methodist University.
A three-year letterman as a goalkeeper at Elizabethtown College, Watkins helped the Blue Jays to a runner-up finish in the MAC in 2009.
In addition to her playing experience, she instructed at a speed school.
"I am very excited to bring Becca on board," Lutz said. "She brings a fresh, new energy to the program which I am sure the team will respond to. Her focus and background is on the defensive half of the field and goalies, in particular, and that meshes well with my background.
"Along with that she brings specific training in speed, agility, balance and power explosion. I think this helps our recipe for success."
Following her playing career at E-town, Watkins began her coaching career at her high school alma mater, Westfield H.S. in northern Virginia.
Watkins was a two-year varsity player at Westfield and earned All-District honors in her senior year. In her three seasons at Elizabethtown, she worked with the high school team following the collegiate season. In 2010, she assisted with them for the full year.
She continues her playing career with the Capital Athletic Club.
"I love coaching and love lacrosse," Watkins stated. "I'm moving to Winchester soon and can't wait to get started."
