Cox Hired as Women's Assistant

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Lindsey West announced Thursday that she has hired Dennis Cox '08 as assistant women's lacrosse coach.

Cox, who played four years of lacrosse and one year of football at SU, will become West's top assistant.

In his four-year lacrosse career, the Crozet, Virginia native started all 51 games he played in with 188 groundballs, 86 caused turnovers and four goals as a long-stick defenseman. Cox is first all-time for the Shenandoah men's lacrosse program in caused turnovers, ninth in groundballs and his 27 caused turnovers in 2007 is the second-best season in school history. In 2007 and 2008, he earned All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference honors for coach Brian Jenkins.

"I am very happy that Dennis has agreed to join us with our program," said West, who heading into her second year as the squad's head coach. "Everyone I spoke with about him gave him a glowing review, and I know that we are going to work very well together in taking this program to the next level."

The Hornets were 3-12 and made an appearance in the USA South Conference Tournament semi-finals for the first time in three seasons in 2009. The three wins also tripled the 2008 win total.

"I am certainly blessed with the opportunity to come back to my alma mater," Cox said. "I just want to thank coach West and the rest of the athletic department staff for giving me this chance. I know that my coaching experience here will be as positive as my playing experience and I can't wait to get started."

Cox will start his part-time position immediately.
