Two Earn All-District Honors

DELAWARE, Ohio - Shenandoah University had two student-athletes earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III honors in selections announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Juniors Paola Aguilar and Kaitlin Sommer, who both play for the Hornets lacrosse and field hockey teams, were each named to the women's District III at-large second team.

To be eligible for Academic All-District, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves on their team and have at least a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale with nominees voted on by CoSIDA members within one of eight national districts.

Aguilar, a forward in field hockey and a defender in lacrosse, has a 3.64 GPA as a Political Science/Business major. She was the leading scorer for the field hockey team and a first team All-USA South Conference selection in lacrosse after leading the team in both groundballs and caused turnovers.

Aguilar is a three-time USA South Conference All-Academic team selection and was named MAC All-Academic for field hockey this season.

Sommer, the SU SAAC co-President, boasts a 3.79 GPA as a Political Science major. She is also a three-time USA South All-Academic team honoree and earn All-MAC Academic honors this fall for field hockey.

Sommer started 14 of 15 lacrosse games and 14 of 16 in field hockey.
