WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Greensboro College held off pesky Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium to take a 12-11 USA South Conference women's lacrosse victory.
Greensboro (8-2, 4-1 USA South) held a 6-5 lead and led by four goals early in the second half, but had to hold on as Shenandoah (6-4, 3-1) stormed back in the final 13 minutes.
SU, which was riding a six-game winning streak coming into the contest, scored four straight goals from the 13:41 to 6:36 marks to tie the contest at 11.
Layne Woodward then tallied the game-winner for the Pride on an unassisted goal with 3:55 remaining.
The Hornets had two excellent chances in the final minute to score on shots by Sara Mucciaro and Sydney Anderson, but GC keeper Jessica Catanzano was able to come up with a pair of saves to preserve the victory.
Junior Jennie Ott led the hosts with four points on two goals and two assists while freshman Corrinne Kosmowski h???a???d??????t???h???r???e???e??????g???o???a???l???s.
Mucciaro and Anderson both had two goals and an assist.
SU keeper Tori Beasley made 13 saves, including 10 in the first half.
GC held a 30-25 advantage in shots, the two teams had 27 groundballs each and GC won 18 of 25 draws.
Shenandoah hosts Frostburg State Wednesday night at 7 in a non-league contest.
