FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University earned its first-ever women's lacrosse regular season victory over Methodist University with a 17-7 USA South win Sunday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

SU (2-3, 1-0 USA South) had only beaten the Monarchs (0-4, 0-1) once previously since MU started its program in 2002 - the 2005 USA South Conference Tournament Championship game. Ironically, Hornets coach Lindsey West was a junior on that Methodist squad.

West, in her second year at the helm of the Shenandoah program, changed all that history Sunday afternoon with a nine-goal second half against her alma mater.

Leading 9-7 after Kate Kaus scored an unassisted goal for the Monarchs at 22:59 of the second, the Hornets ran away by scoring the final eight goals of the contest.

Freshman Corrinne Kosmowski scored three goals with classmates Sydney Anderson and Amy Rollins adding two each during this run.

In a 36-second span midway through the period, Kosmowski sandwiched a pair of goals around one from Rollins to double Shenandoah's lead to six goals and basically seal the contest.

SU led from the 22:34 mark of the first - Methodist opened the day's scoring 53 seconds in before a four-goal Hornets run gave Shenandoah a 4-1 by the 19:28 mark.

From this point on, MU was not able to get any closer than two goals the rest of the way.

Junior Sara Mucciaro led the victors with four goals and two assists with Rollins adding three and two and Kosmowski three and one.

Keeper Tori Beasley made 10 saves.

West's club is back in action on Tuesday with a USA South Conference contest at N.C. Wesleyan.
