Women's Lax Extinguishes Phoenix

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned the first win of
the Lindsey West era Thursday night with a 20-2 non-league women's
lacrosse victory over Wilson College.
The win came easy for Shenandoah (1-1) in Wilson's (0-1) first-ever
intercollegiate lacrosse contest.
The Hornets scored just 37 seconds into the contest and added seven
more goals in the next 7:10 to take a commanding 8-0 lead by the
22:13 mark.
After the Phoenix scored their first-ever goal when Alyssa Bernard
won the draw and tallied unassisted, Shenandoah answered with
another four-goal run.
Jami DeVanie matched Bernard's goal to make it 12-2 with 4:06 left;
SU won the draw following this goal and worked the remainder of the
first half clock to take the 10-goal lead into the lockerroom.
Six different women scored the Hornets eight goals in the second
half and all but two SU field players registered at least one point
in the contest.
Sophomore Jennie
Ott led all players with four goals and one assist for five
points and she added six groundballs and six draw controls.
Kierra
Nicholson equalled Ott with five points; she had a goal and
four assists while picking up four of the squad's 25
groundballs.
Shenandoah outshot WC 44 to 2 and Phoenix goalie Britteny Valtin
made 18 saves.

SU travels to Lynchburg for a Friday non-league contest. The
opening draw is scheduled for 6:00.
