WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its women's lacrosse regular season Saturday afternoon with a 16-12 non-league loss to Washington & Jefferson.

After seeing W&J (4-6) score eight of the game's first 10 goals, Shenandoah (2-11) began a rally midway through the first half.

Freshman Clarissa Mulligan started a 6-1 Hornets run that sandwiched halftime and brought the hosts to within one, 9-8, with 28:17 to play.

Unfortunately for SU, this would prove to be the team's high-water mark.

Courtney Schrock, who had a game-high six goals, tallied three times for Washington & Jefferson in the next six minutes and the Presidents would be able to coast home to the victory.

Shenandoah would cut the deficit to three goals when Ashley Heroth quick-sticked a feed from Jennie Ott at the 6:57 mark, but could not cut the deficit any further.

Sara Mucciaro had four goals and two assists for the Hornets, who outshot W&J 36-35 and also won the groundball battle 26-23. The two teams both won 15 draw controls.

SU hosts Ferrum on Tuesday in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. First draw is scheduled for 6:00.
