Women's Lax Falls Short

FREDERICK, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team battled back from a slow start Monday afternoon in its non-conference women's lacrosse game at Hood, but fell just short in a 13-12 loss.

Shenandoah (2-9) trailed 4-0 after the Blazers (7-6) scored four goals in the first six minutes of the contest.

Laurel Smith finally stopped Hood's run with her goal off of a Sara Mucciaro assist at 20:42; this started a 5-2 run that brought the Hornets to within one, 6-5, with 1:42 to play in the first half.

HC answered with a goal 38 seconds later to take a 7-5 lead into the half.

After Hood tallied three of the first four goals of the second to take a 10-6 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining, Shenandoah roared back into it with four goals in the next eight minutes.

Mucciaro had two of these goals with Rebecca Hibble and Jessie Kuykendall one each to bring coach Lindsey West's team into a 10-10 tie by the 14:19 mark.

Unfortunately for the visitors, the Blazers answered with a 3-0 run of their own to seal the victory.

Kierra Nicholson and Kuykendall closed out the afternoon's scoring with goals at 4:47 and :24 seconds, respectively, but SU could get no closer.

The Hornets outshot Hood, 32-25, and also won the groundball battle 32-29.
