Flint Hits 1000 in Victory
WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University ran its USA South Conference women's basketball winning streak to three games Tuesday night with an 89-38 victory over winless N.C. Wesleyan.
Senior Katherine Flint paced the Hornets (10-7, 6-5 USA South) to the win with a game-high 21 points and in the process became the 16th woman in school history to score at least 1000 career points.
Needing those 21 points to join classmate Alexis Hargbol (who cracked the barrier in December versus Wilkes) in the club, Flint got just over halfway to the mark with 11 first half points as SU took a 35-15 lead into the lockerroom against Wesleyan (0-16, 0-11).
Flint then got to within one point of the mark with four field goals, the last a 3-pointer, before hitting a free throw at the 11:41 mark.
Flint's final point gave the Hornets a 61-25 lead, and SU coach Michelle Guyant-Holloway immediately gave her point guard the rest of the evening off.
No Hornets player played more than the 23 minutes that Flint played Tuesday evening, and 12 of the 13 in uniform scored at least two points.
SU was totally dominant in all phases of the game - in addition to the 51-point margin of victory, the Hornets held a 58-32 advantage on the glass, outscored the Bishops 44-14 in the paint and had 26 points off of Wesleyan's 17 turnovers.
Juniors Sierra
Edwards and Stephanie
Holton backed up Flint with 12 points each off the bench.
Samantha Urquhart had 11 points for NCWC.
Shenandoah is back in action this weekend with 2:00 contests at Peace and Meredith colleges.
