Women's Hoops Picked Third
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team is the pre-season No. 3 pick of the USA South Conference coaches in a poll released Wednesday afternoon by the league.
Shenandoah, in its fourth season under the direction of Michelle Guyant-Holloway, finished the 2008-09 season 15-12 overall and won a school-record 10 USA South Conference contests.
Guyant-Holloway welcomes back four starters off of last year's team, including All-USA South honorees Mandy Johnston, Katherine Flint and Alexis Hargbol.
SU has 62 points and one first place vote in the poll - points are awarded on a 1-9 basis and coaches cannot vote for their own team.
Christopher Newport, the 2009 champion, is the pre-season selection to win it all again in 2009-10. Ferrum comes in at No. 2 with 70 points while Methodist is the No. 4 pick with 56.
The Hornets begin official practice tomorrow and open the regular season on November 21 and 22 at the Susquehanna (Pa.) Tournament. The conference slate tips-off on December 2 at Christopher Newport.
