Women's Indoor T&F Eighth at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Shenandoah University women's indoor track & field team began its busy weekend with an eighth place finish Thursday at the Sweetheart Multi-Mix hosted by the US Naval Academy.

Shenandoah had six points to finish eighth of nine teams in the predominantly Division I meet.

The Hornets were third of four DIII schools – SU finished two points in front of ninth place Hood and three back of No. 7 McDaniel.

Johns Hopkins, which tied with George Washington for fifth overall, topped the DIII contingent.

Delaware won the meet by 13.5 points over host Navy.

Coach Andy Marrocco's squad had a total of 12 personal bests along with seven ODAC qualifiers Thursday afternoon.

Shenandoah's six points were earned in the 4 x 400 meter relay as Aislynn Smith, Alexandria Caljean, Sarah Mann and Emily Miller was third with a 4:30.30.

Smith completed her day by finishing 10th in the mile with a 5:21.96. Her time was third among DIII competition.

"This is a big weekend for us," Marrocco said. "It's our last opportunity to face outside competition before the ODAC Championships at the end of the month and we are rounding into form.

"I look forward to additional strong performances Friday and Saturday."

Both the men and women are back in action tomorrow on day one of the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Virginia.
