WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams enter this weekend's ODAC Championships looking to best a pair of top six finishes achieved at the 2017 indoor championships.

Those indoor finishes build upon a fourth place showing for the women and a fifth place spot for the men at the 2016 outdoor championships.

The Hornets had three ODAC Champions last spring – Shelby Shrader in the steeplechase, Danyelle McGrady in the hammer throw and Ansel Borhauer in the 400 meters.

All three athletes return to defend their titles this weekend.

Borhauer's 49.42 seconds in the 400 at the Liberty Invitational is second best in the league and his 22.30 in the 200 is the fourth fastest time in the ODAC this spring.

In the jumps, Chris Smith has the third best performance in the ODAC in both the long jump and triple jump at 6.80 (22'3.75") and 13.52 (44'4.25") meters, respectively.

Matthew Horton leads a trio of men in the steeplechase with the fourth best time in the ODAC (9:53.47) set at the Battleground Relays that places him squarely in the hunt for an All-ODAC showing. Justin Mehrer (6th) and Matthew Gussiaas (8th) are right on Horton's heels.

Marquaye Jackson and Anthony Banks round out the men's top marks with top five showings in the throws. Jackson has the fifth best mark in the hammer throw, 42.56 meters (139'7"), while Banks' 45.59 meter (149'7") javelin toss is fourth best in the league this season.

McGrady has possibly the best chance of earning an ODAC championship as she appears in the top 10 in each of the throwing events with her 40.87 meter (134'1") javelin throw at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational the 11th best throw in the nation this season in addition to being the top mark in the ODAC.

The senior has the top hammer throw, 47.29 meters (155'2"), the No. 2 discus, 40.34 meters (132'4"), and the No. 10 shot put, 10.54 meters (34'7").

Sophomore Shamyra Wilkerson appears three times in the top six in the league with a third in the 100 (12.44 seconds), fifth in the 400 (1.00.26) and sixth in 200 (25.78 seconds).

Shrader is the defending champion in the steeplechase and her 12:05.27 is No. 4 in the league this year but teammates Emily Miller and Aislynn Smith are right behind with the eighth and ninth best times, respectively, in the league this year.

Batres Maku and Delia Mack round out the top performers with a Nos. 5 and 7 rankings in the high jump. Maku's fifth place showing of 1.48 meters (4'10.25") is just 1.5 inches better than Mack's 1.47 meters (4'9.75").
