Four Qualify at Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Shenandoah University had another three
athletes qualify for the season ending MAC Championships with their
performances Friday and Saturday at the Mary Washington Relays.
Kyle Gutierrez, who competed on Friday, led this group by winning
the men's 10000 meter race.
Senior Sarah Hickie and sophomore Brandi Sobanko also qualified,
with Hickie punching her ticket in the 1500 meters and Sobanko in
the 100 meter hurdles.
SU also had a number of top three finishes. Amy Smith, who competed
in that same 1500 meter race Hickie, finished second to Hickie's
fifth with a 5:14.81.
Kristen Melton was fifth in 3000 meters, the distance medley relay
team was fourth and Kelley Mitchell third in the shot put.
Kevin Schaeffer rounded out this group with an 18.60, fourth place
showing in the men's 110 meter hurdles.
