Hickie Earns ESPN Academic Honor
DELAWARE, Ohio - Graduating senior Sarah Hickie '09 has earned first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III honors in selections announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Hickie, who graduated with a 3.95 GPA in Business Administration and is headed to the University of Virginia to pursue her J.D., becomes the sixth SU student-athlete this academic year to earn ESPN All-District honors.
To be selected as Academic All-District, student-athletes must have a GPA of at least a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve on their team.
Nominees are voted on CoSIDA members and the first team All-District nominees move on to the national ballot for consideration by the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee.
Should Hickie be selected as an Academic All-America, she would be the fourth woman at Shenandoah this year (after softball players Catherine Beuerle and Katie Haskins and women's soccer player Renee Summerson) to earn that distinction.
As a member of the cross country, indoor track and outdoor track programs, Hickie earned second team All-USA South honors in the fall and USA South and MAC All-Academic accolades. She is a three-time USA South Academic team honoree.
