Another Four Qualify

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Shenandoah University indoor track & field team posted another four MAC qualifers Saturday afternoon at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University.

Freshman Brandi Sobanko, who had previously qualified for the MAC in the 400 meters, bested her time in that event with a school record 1:03.74. She was 16th overall.

Sobanko will be headed to the MAC championships in at least two events after posting a 28:42, 15th place finish in the 200. This is also a new school record.

The Hornets had a pair of sixth place showings in the men's and women's 5000 meters. Kyle Gutierrez had a 16:22.62 in the men's event that puts him into the MAC championships while Sarah Hickie's 20:48.97 in the women's race is a new school best.

Lastly, freshman Amy Smith had a 5:45.82 in the women's mile that was both a new school record and put her into the MAC meet.

Shenandoah is back on the track next weekend at the Dickinson Indoor in Carlisle, Pa.
