WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan kept its perfect softball season intact with a sweep over Shenandoah University Sunday afternoon in ODAC action.
VWU (34-0, 12-0 ODAC) was a 7-0 winner in the opener before completing the sweep with a 12-0, six inning win in game two.
Three Marlins pitchers held Shenandoah (11-21, 2-12) without a hit in game one with starter Hanna Hull striking out six, Alana Peters three and Carla Hall two.
Peters (4-0) pitched the fourth and fifth innings to earn the win.
Elizabeth Everette (4-6) took the game one loss for the Hornets. She allowed four runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings. Carrie Robinson pitched the final 5 2/3.
Freshman Maryann Hollen had two of the four game two hits for SU. She had singles in the fourth and sixth innings while classmate Morgan Henley had a double in the second.
Senior Kristen Weadon had the remaining hit, a single in the fifth.
Hull (24-0) pitched the first 4.0 innings of game two to get the victory. She allowed two hits and struck out four.
Katherine Seidl fell in game two. Seidl (6-10) allowed 10 runs on eight hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings.
Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday in a 3 p.m. non-league doubleheader at McDaniel.
