Over's No-Hitter Keys Split

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Brooke Over threw her second no-hitter of the season Saturday as Shenandoah University wrapped up its final USA South Conference season with a doubleheader split at Greensboro.

Shenandoah (20-13, 9-9 USA South) was a 2-0 winner in game one before Greensboro (19-17, 10-8) came back to win the nightcap 6-3.

Over held the Pride without a hit in the opening win, thanks in large part to a diving catch in the bottom of the seventh from right fielder Brittany Guepe.

Guepe laid out to rob Brittany Evans of a hit and then Over took care of the rest, getting Reihle Kash to pop to first base to end the game and give Over her second gem of the season.

Over (10-8) struck out six and walked three in throwing the no-hitter.

Offensively, junior Jordan Wolford hit a two-run HR in the sixth for the only runs of the contest. Wolford's blast scored classmate Lauren McCabe, who had led off the frame by reaching on an error.

Guepe and Heather Sink both had two hits in game one.

Shenandoah banged out eight hits in game two, but saw GC score three runs in the second and two more in the fourth on its way to the 6-3 victory.

Guepe was 2 for 4 while Wolford and Denise Mitchell both drove in runs.

Wolford (6-3) pitched the first four innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits.

Shenandoah plays at future ODAC rival Bridgewater on Tuesday in preparation for its final USA South Conference Tournament beginning on Friday. SU plays No. 3 Ferrum in the first round of the tourney.
