VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The RV Shenandoah University women's softball team opened up play Friday afternoon at the 2012 Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast with a pair of victories.
Shenandoah (4-0), which received five votes (RV) in the most recent NFCA Top 25 poll, opened the two-day tournament with a 10-0 victory over Baruch (N.Y.).
Against Baruch (0-1), the Hornets had 13 hits with sophomore Heather Sink leading the way by going 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBI.
All three women drove in two runs.
Shenandoah didn't need all of the offensive production as junior Jordan Wolford fanned 10 and allowed just one hit in the complete game performance.
SU banged out 13 hits in the big victory over the Sea Gulls (5-1), including a huge pinch hit two-run double from sophomore Kaitlin Robinson in the bottom of the sixth.
After Salisbury tied the score at 5-5 by scoring three runs with two outs in the top of the seventh, Lane stepped up in the bottom of the frame with her third hit of the game to drive in the game-winning run with a walkoff single.
The Hornets had loaded the bases with no outs on a hit by pitch and two singles to set up Lane for her game-winning single to left.
Coble again had two hits, Lane drove in three (including that game-winner) and Denise Mitchell was 2 for 3 with a dinger.
She gave up five hits.
