Softball Eliminates Kean

SALISBURY, Md. – Shenandoah University made it two-for-two against NJAC opponents in the 2011 NCAA Softball Regional with a 6-1 victory over Kean (N.J.) Saturday afternoon in an elimination game.

Shenandoah (32-16) earns a second matchup with Rowan (N.J.) by virtue of its victory over Kean (17-27).

The Profs ousted regional top-seed and No. 2 in the nation Emory (Ga.) with a 6-5 victory Saturday morning.

SU and RU will play an elimination game at 10:00 Sunday morning for the right to take on the loser of the Salisbury/Christopher Newport game. Coach Marlena Kotynski's club opened the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Rowan on Thursday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 Saturday afternoon after the Cougars scored one run on two hits in the walk in the first, Shenandoah erupted for six runs on seven hits in the third to take out the NJAC champions.

Heather Sink drove in what proved to be the winning run with a groundout to second while Morgan Coble drove in a pair with a double to right center and Denise Mitchell had an RBI single.

Kean committed two errors in the frame which made the final run unearned.

Brooke Over (23-8) went the distance in the victory, scattering five hits and three walks. She also struck out four.

Renoula Jones, Catherine Pruiett and Mitchell all had two hits for the victors with Coble driving in a pair.
