WINCHESTER, Va. - Head Softball Coach Marlena Kotynski announced Monday afternoon her class of nine incoming freshmen for the 2010 season.
Kotynski, whose squad is coming off of back-to-back 30-win seasons, is bringing in these nine women to add to the 14 returnees from last year's 30-13 team. Her Hornets finished second in the USA South in both the regular season and the USA South Conference Tournament.
Seven of these nine women are natives of Virginia, including four: Caitlin Johnson, Carly Lewis, Amanda Litwin and Lauren McCabe, from the northern Shenandoah Valley. The class includes two pitchers, two catchers, a pair of middle infielders, two corner infielders and one outfielder.
Shenandoah opens up the 2010 season, the sixth under Kotynski's tutelage, on February 27 with a non-league doubleheader against 2009 NCAA participant Lynchburg College.
