Seven Earn Softball Honors
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University had seven student-athletes earn USA South softball honors in selections announced Wednesday afternoon by the league.
Sophomore Brooke Over and freshman Lauren McCabe led this group by being second team All-USA South at pitcher and second base, respectively.
Over, who was named as the league's Pitcher of the Week twice this season, has a 10-7 overall record this year and is 6-3 in conference contests.
McCabe, who earned a starting position midway through the year, hit a sizzling .475 in 16 league contests. Included in this total is a 7 for 8 afternoon against Averett.
Both senior Lauren Wall and junior Ashley Plaugher grab their third-ever All-USA South selections with their placement on the third team.
Wall, at first base, is hitting .350 this year with 16 RBI and a co-team-high two home runs. She was named as the first team All-USA South honoree in 2008.
Plaugher grabs her third league honor by being named at third base this season. In 2008, she was named to the second team at third base and was an honorable mention selection last season at shortstop.
Plaugher is hitting .315 this season and has been named as the league's Player of the Week one time.
The final three honorees came on the honorable mention team with Jolisa Jones picked at shortstop and both Shatora Lane and Catherine Pruiett in the outfield.
This is the third-ever selection for Pruiett, the second for Jones and the first for Lane. Lane is also a double honoree as she was picked as the team's representative to the All-Sportsmanship squad.
Jones currently leads the team with a .387 average, Lane is hitting .330 and Pruiett .287.
