Two Earn USA South Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University had two student-athletes earn USA South weekly honors in selections announced Monday by the conference office.

Sophomore Kyle Scallion was named as the league's baseball Pitcher of the Week while freshman Amanda Litwin grabbed softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors.

Scallion, a reliever, went 1-0 with two saves last week as the Hornets posted a 4-0 week. In an 11-8 win at Bridgewater on Thursday, Scallion recorded the win by tossing the final 3 1/3 innings with two strikeouts against two walks and two earned runs on one hit.

Over the weekend, Scallion posted saves in both games of the Greensboro series by holding the Pride scoreless in a combined 2 1/3 innings of work. In Sunday's 7-6 victory, Scallion came on and recorded a strikeout with the tying run on third base.

Litwin was 2-0 on the week, defeating Randolph-Macon 1-0 and Guilford 4-2. She scattered three hits in Saturday's shutout victory over the Yellow Jackets and then went the distance again on Sunday against Guilford.

Both teams are in action at home on Tuesday, the baseball team in a doubleheader against Albertus Magnus and the softball team against defending national champion Messiah.
