Two Named All-State

EMORY, Va. - Two Shenandoah University softball players put a final cap on their outstanding careers with Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State honors Wednesday afternoon.

Seniors Katie Haskins and Catherine Beuerle were first and second team selections at utility and catcher, respectively.

This caps an "honors season" in which the two women were both named All-USA South, ESPN The Magazine All-District III and ESPN The Magazine first team Academic All-America.

Beuerle also earned the Don Scalf Award from the USA South, the highest honor the league bestows upon its student-athletes.

Haskins was named as the league's Pitcher of the Year in both 2008 and 2009 as she won a combined 34 contests in the two seasons. A six-time All-USA South honoree (three pitching, two utility, one outfield), Haskins was 16-4 from the pitching circle this spring and all four of her losses came to nationally ranked teams.

This spring, Beuerle was named All-USA South for the third consecutive year as SU again won 30 contests and made its second appearance in the USA South Tournament in the past three seasons.

The two are both in graduate school as Doctor of Physical Therapy students and boast GPA's of at least 3.9 on a 4.0 scale.

Haskins was named as the department's female athlete of the year and Beuerle as the female student-athlete of the year for the second straight year at the Senior Awards Dinner in April.
