Haskins Repeats as Pitcher of the Year

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Senior Katie Haskins and freshman Brooke Over swept the USA South Conference Pitching awards in selections announced Wednesday by the conference office.

The two women are among nine team members to earn All-USA South honors.

Haskins, who led the league in ERA and was second in wins, repeats as the league's Pitcher of the Year and as a first team All-USA South pick at that position.

Haskins tossed three one-hitters and one two-hitter this season and has 128 strikeouts in 111.2 innings pitched. She has been named as the league's Pitcher of the Week three times, including the past two weeks.

An outstanding hitter, Haskins was also named third team All-USA South as a utility player. She is currently hitting .315 and is the squad's co-leader in triples.

Over, who serves as the team's No. 2 pitcher, gives SU a clean sweep of the major pitching awards by being named as the league's Rookie Pitcher of the Year. Over is 8-6 overall from the pitching circle and has been named rookie Pitcher of the Week three times this season.

The Hornets had four players: Haskins, Jesse Khosravi-HeinsMarlee Camplese and Catherine Pruiett, named to the league's third team.

In addition to Haskins utility pick, Heins was named at third base, Camplese at designated player and Pruiett in the outfield.

Heins and Camplese lead the team in hitting with averages of .359 and .364, respectively, and have both been named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week one time this spring.

Pruiett, the 2008 USA South Conference Rookie of the Year, leads SU in runs scored from her No. 2 position in the batting order.

The remaining four selections all come to the honorable mention team. Senior Catherine Beuerle was selected at catcher, juniors Lauren Wall and Katie Bundrick at first and second base, respectively, and sophomore Ashley Plaugher at shortstop.

This is the third straight year that Beuerle was named All-USA South and the second time for both Wall and Plaugher.

The final honoree is senior Jessica Robertson, who was picked as the team's representative to the All-Sportmanship team.
