Softball Sweeps Angels

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its first sweep
of the USA South Conference softball season Saturday afternoon with
11-0 and 4-3 victories over Meredith College.
Shenandoah (13-7, 4-2 USA South) needed only five innings to
dispatch the Avenging Angels (9-9, 5-3) in the opener.
Senior Katie Haskins (7-2) was dominant for the Hornets, allowing
just a pair of Arelle Stout singles and striking out seven as she
won her fifth straight decision.
Haskins also figured prominently with the bat - she had two singles
in two at-bats and scored what proved to be the game-winning
run.
SU had eight hits in the game, with Haskins and Cat Pruiett getting
two apiece.
Jordan Smith (6-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven
runs (six earned) on five hits and five walks in 2.0 innings.
With game one halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule,
Haskins started and pitched the first three frames of game two. She
departed with the Hornets leading 4-2 following a three-run
third.
Freshman Brooke Over (3-4) followed Haskins into the pitching
circle, and earned the win by scattering three hits and one run in
four innings of relief work. She also struck out three.
Three straight singles provided Shenandoah with the winning runs in
the nightcap; Ashley Plaugher and Jesse Khosravi-Heins had the
latter two hits and also each drove in a run.
