Softball Sweeps Squirrels

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University posted its second
straight USA South Conference softball sweep with a 9-0 and 4-0
victories over Mary Baldwin College Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets (15-7, 6-2 USA South) allowed the Squirrels (4-20,
0-10) just a combined three hits on the day.
In game one, senior Katie Haskins tossed a one-hitter and scored
what proved to be the game-winning run when she legged out an
inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third inning.
Shenandoah ended things early by scoring eight more runs on six
hits in the fourth.
SU batted around in the frame with freshman Marlee Camplese getting
a pair of singles.
The offense was more than enough for Haskins, who struck out eight
and faced just two batters over the minimum in earning her eighth
victory in 10 decisions this spring.
The Hornets had just six hits in the nightcap, but freshman Brooke
Over (4-4) gave up only singles in the third and seventh innings to
win her second straight decision.
Camplese scored the winning run when she came in ahead of Catherine
Buerele on pinch hitter Anna Struhar's two-run single to left.
Amanda Miller (2-9) was the losing pitcher in both games for
MBC.
