FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Graduating senior Catherine Beuerle earned the highest honor the USA South Conference awards its student-athletes by being named the female Don Scalf Award winner Wednesday afternoon.
Named after the longtime N.C. Wesleyan coach, administrator and secretary-treasuer of the league for 25 years, the Scalf Award is conferred to one male and one female student-athlete every year.

Beuerle earned All-USA South honors in her final three years with the softball team, was a USA South All-Tournament selection in 2007 and 2009 and was named ESPN The Magazine first team Academic All-America in both 2008 and 2009.
She is the first SU student-athlete, male or female, to be named first team Academic All-America two times during her career.
A 4.0 student as an undergrad, Beuerle has earned a 3.8 GPA in two years of work toward her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
In addition to her athletic and academic exploits, Beuerle has completed Mission Trips to New Orleans and is a 15-year member of Girl Scouts.
