DANVILLE, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Softball Coach
Marlena Kotynski earned her 100th career victory Saturday afternoon
as her Hornets swept Averett University in a USA South Conference
doubleheader.
Shenandoah (24-8, 13-3 USA South) clinches at least third place in
the league with the 2-0 and 4-1 victories over the Cougars (16-14,
7-11).
The 2-0 win, on a one-hitter by senior Katie Haskins (13-2), gave
Kotynski her 100th career win as the team's coach.
Now in her fifth season at the helm of the Hornets, Kotynski is
54-20 overall and 28-6 in the USA South since the start of the 2008
season.
Haskins' classmate, Cat Beuerle, provided all of the offense that
Haskins would need with a two-run single to center in the third
inning. Following those runs, Haskins sealed the deal by allowing
just one more baserunner (on a hit batter) the rest of the way.
Haskins struck out nine in the win.
The Hornets provided freshman Brooke Over (8-5) with two runs in
the second and two more in the fifth to finish off the Cougars.
Over also struck out nine and allowed three hits in the
contest.
SU completes conference play tomorrow with a make-up doubleheader
with Greensboro. The Hornets lead game one, 2-0, in the top of the
third and the DH will be picked up at this point.
