Men's Tennis Opens at ITAs

FREDRICKSBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team had a strong start Saturday to its participation in the ITA Southeast Regionals.

Forced to play only doubles because of rain in the Fredericksburg area, the duo of Brett Dubin and Matt Hwang won a pair of matches to advance to the B2 flight semi-finals.

Dubin and Hwang opened with an 8-1 win over Edward Doyle and Nathan Roberts from Germanna CC before taking out Andrew Rainger and Patrick MacLean from Salisbury in the quarterfinals.

The duo won that match 8-4. Dubin and Hwang face Matthew Katz and Jeremy Novick from Washington College at 8 a.m. in the flight semis.

The championship is scheduled for 9:15 and should Dubin and Hwang win, they will be guaranteed to face an ODAC opponent in the championship. The other semi-final features teams from Hampden-Sydney and Bridgewater.

The other two doubles pairings - Bryan Harris/Evan Rosenberg and Kyler Apgar/Kyle Denning - both lost in the round of 16 in the B3 flight. Both groups have Sunday consolation matches scheduled.
