Men's Tennis Opens at ITA Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Shenandoah University has one men's tennis player remaining in the ITA South/Southeast Regionals after day one of play on Saturday.

Freshman Alex Haley remains in the B6 singles draw after winning two matches Saturday. Haley opened the tournament with an 8-4 win in the round of 16 before taking out Alex Elbogen 8-2 in the quarterfinals.

Haley will play Nate Hoskins from York College of Pennsylvania on Sunday morning at 11:30.

In other singles action, senior Michael Milanov was eliminated from the main draw with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Swarthmore's Anthony Collard in the round of 64.

Freshman Steven Baker was an 8-3 winner over Hampden-Sydney's Walt Mountcastle in the opening round of the B5 draw before falling 8-4 to Shane Gunther from Salisbury in the quarterfinals.

Junior Dustan DeMello also made it to the quarterfinal round as he was an 8-2 winner in the round of 16 in the B7 draw. DeMello was eliminated with an 8-1 loss to Derek Kegerris from Lynchburg in the quarterfinals.

Milanov and Haley, playing in the main doubles draw, advanced into the round of 16 with an 8-3 win over Jordan Domsky and Steven Ly from Penn State – Altoona. The duo was defeated 8-1 by Carnegie Mellon's Abhishek Alla and Bryce Beisswanger.
