Scruton Resigns Tennis Post

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Wayne Edwards announced Monday that Kimberly Scruton has resigned her position as head men's and women's tennis coach.

Scruton, who served as co-Interim Athletic Director from May 2009 to January 2010, is resigning to take a position on the faculty at Methodist University.

The Rockford, Michigan native is scheduled to graduate with her Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership in August.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Winchester, but this is an opportunity for my family that I just couldn't pass up.

“I really loved coaching my teams, but I have had a goal of becoming a college professor for quite some time and this is a perfect situation for us.”

Scruton's husband, Denny, has accepted a faculty position at UNC-Pembroke, a member of the UNC state system and located approximately 30 miles from Methodist's Fayetteville, N.C. campus. Denny Scruton previously was an assistant professor in Shenandoah's Kinesiology Department.

Kim Scruton led the men's and women's programs for the past five seasons and guided the women to an all-time best record of 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the USA South last season. The third place showing was the program's best-ever finish.

“I want to thank Kim for all of her great work here,” SU President Tracy Fitzsimmons said. “She did an excellent job as co-Interim AD and I was always impressed with her teams. We wish her well in her new career.”

The tennis programs completed their seasons this past weekend with losses in the quarterfinal round of their respective USA South Conference Tournaments.

“We appreciate the contribution that Coach Scruton has made to the advancement of our women's and men's tennis programs at Shenandoah during the past five years, and wish every success for her and her family in the future,” Dr. Edwards said.

“We will move forward as quickly as possible to fill this important position with our program.”
