NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - No. 2 Christopher Newport used three quick goals to key a 4-0 USA South Conference men's soccer victory over Shenandoah University Wednesday evening.
CNU (13-0-1, 5-0 USA South) scored three goals in the first 17:04 of the contest to the cruise the victory over Shenandoah (2-10-1, 0-4).
Steven Farmer scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fifth minute when he re-possessed a deflected pass and ripped his shot past Hornets keeper Anthony Light.
Farmer's shot was one of 28 the Captains had on the evening.
CNU outshot Shenandoah 28-2 and had all 12 of the corner kicks awarded.
Light, a freshman, made 12 saves in his first collegiate start.
SU is back in action on Saturday at 10 a.m. in a USA South Conference match at Ferrum.
