Methodist Blanks Men

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Host Methodist University kept the SU men's soccer team winless on the 2008 season with a 2-0 USA South Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs (8-8, 3-2 USA South) and Hornets (0-12-2, 0-4) played to a scoreless first half - MU finally broke through with a Bret Brennan goal in the 69th minute.

Brennan finished off a feed from Jason Casco, who crossed the ball into the box to the waiting Brennan.

With just under 10 minutes remaining, the hosts got an insurance goal when Mike Demara converted a penalty kick.

The two teams played relatively even, with Methodist outshooting SU just 14-10 and taking five of the game's eight corners.

Hornets keeper Brian Garretson made four saves.
