Men Earn First Victory

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2008 season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 USA South Conference victory over the visiting Ferrum College Panthers.

Shenandoah (1-12-2, 1-4 USA South) won for the first time since a 2-0 victory over Averett in the 2008 season finale with one goal in the waning moments of the first and a penalty kick in the second.

Ferrum (3-14-1, 1-5) had two of its four shots on goal, but Hornets keeper Brian Garretson was in position each time to preserve the shutout.

Freshman Ean Faison scored what proved to be the game-winner for SU when he flicked home a header from sophomore Micah Miller just 10 seconds before halftime.

In the 69th minute, junior Adam Aldinger gave the hosts some breathing room when he converted a penalty kick. FC was called for the foul on a takedown in the box on a through pass - Aldinger then buried his shot into the right panel for the 2-0 lead.

The Hornets outshot Ferrum 10-4 and won six of the game's seven corners.

Box Score

Shenandoah completes the regular season next week at Averett University. A win over the Cougars will clinch the No. 5 seed at the USA South Conference Tournament for the squad.
