Men Clinch Fifth

DANVILLE, Va. - Shenandoah University clinched fifth place in the USA South Conference men's soccer standings Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory at Averett University in the regular season finale.

SU (2-13-2, 2-4 USA South) won for the second consecutive outing and will be the fifth seed at next week's USA South Conference Tournament with the win over the Cougars (1-12, 0-6).

Shenandoah will travel to Greensboro on Tuesday for a 3:00 quarterfinal round contest - GC tied Methodist for third in the league but MU earns the third seed by virtue of its head-to-head win over the Pride.

SU wasted little time in earning its 14th consecutive victory over AU - Ryan Grantham scored an unassisted goal in the 5th minute before Chris Wondree and Kyle Farrell scored within 30 seconds of one another in the 8th minute.

Farrell made it 4-0 in favor of the Hornets with his goal off of an Adam Aldinger assist 12 minutes into the second half; Averett finally got on the board with a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute.

Shenandoah outshot its hosts 14-11 and won three of the game's four corner kicks.
