Men's Soccer Ties Southern Virginia

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University snapped its seven match losing streak to start the 2008 men's soccer season with a 3-3 non-league tie against Southern Virginia Wednesday night.

The Hornets (0-7-1) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead against the Knights (2-2-1), but needed a late goal to salvage the tie.

Junior Adam Aldinger got that equalizer with his goal off a Liberatus Mwagombe's assist in the 79th minute.

Aldinger's goal, his second of the game, allowed SU answer a natural hat trick by Southern Virginia's Eric Lowe.

With his team down 2-0 just 15 minutes in, Lowe scored in the 21st, 29th and 33rd minutes to give his side the one-goal advantage. Lowe's final tally came via penalty kick.

Shenandoah had taken that early advantage when Aldinger and Mwagombe hooked up in the 5th minute and Mwagombe tallied at 14:54.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, the lead was short-lived, as Lowe had knotted the contest by 28:09.

SU outshot its visitors 22-12 but SVU won seven of the game's 13 corners.

Box Score

Shenandoah hosts Marymount on Wednesday night at 7:30.
