Lynchburg Wins Battle Of Soccer Hornets

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Lynchburg College used a five-goal run to start the game Saturday afternoon and take a 9-1 non-league men's soccer victory over Shenandoah in the opening round of the Hampden-Sydney Tournament.

The LC Hornets (1-0) opened the scoring at the 10:10 mark, and 22 minutes later led 5-0.

Shenandoah (0-1) finally snapped this string with an unassisted goal by freshman L.A. St. Hill at 34:18, but Lynchburg answered two minutes later to take a five-goal lead into the half.

LC scored three goals, the last with just over a minute to play, to close out the game's scoring.

Lynchburg outshot SU 25-2 and held a 5-1 advantage in penalty kicks.

Senior Brian Garretson made seven saves in the losing effort.
