Men Shock Pride

WINCHESTER, Va. - Fifth-seeded Shenandoah University shocked No. 4 Greensboro Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the USA South Conference men's soccer Tournament with a 4-3 double overtime victory over the Pride.

Freshman Branden Jannah scored the game-winner for Shenandoah (3-13-2) in the 102nd minute.

Jannah took a feed from junior Chris Wondree and ripped home the golden goal from 12 yards out to eliminate the Pride (10-8-1).

The win is the third straight for the Hornets and the first-ever for SU over Greensboro. Shenandoah had been 0-17-1 lifetime against the Pride coming into Tuesday's quarterfinal round contest.

The Hornets now move on to the semi-finals Friday afternoon against top-seeded Christopher Newport. That game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. at Scalf Field on N.C. Wesleyan's campus in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The game will be videocast - information on the broadcast will be available by Thursday afternoon.

Jannah's game-winner, just his first goal of the season, capped a day in which SU battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits and saw Greensboro erase a 3-2 deficit with a goal in the 75th minute.

Shenandoah had taken that 3-2 lead five minutes earlier on a Kevin Schaeffer to LA St. Hill goal.

Sophomore Adam Aldinger scored the squad's first two goals, the first as an unassisted tally in the 37th minute and then by converting a penalty kick eight minutes into the second half.
