WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Eastern Mennonite University broke
open a scoreless game with a pair of goals midway through the
second half Wednesday night and coasted home to a 2-0 non-league
men's soccer win over Shenandoah.
EMU (3-0) scored the initial goal of the contest on a penalty kick
in the 55th minute before adding an insurance tally just over five
minutes later.
Shenandoah (0-3) was called for a foul in the box on a takedown,
and the Royals selected senior Charles Metz to take the
attempt.
Metz buried his shot into the left corner to give Eastern Mennonite
all of the offense it would need.
Five minutes after Metz gave the visitors the lead, his corner kick
to Mark Pryor effectively ended it. Pryor ran on to the corner and
one-timed his shot past SU keeper Armand
Bozorgmanesh.
Bozorgmanesh played well in just his second-ever start; he had nine
saves on 15 shots.
EMU outshot SU 15-3 with the Hornets failing to put any shots on
goal.
The Royals also held a 11-0 advantage in corners.
